A Night to Remember!
Total Raised: OVER £18000!
On the 12th of October, we gathered at Ribby Hall Village’s Woodland Suite for a spectacular evening at our “Raising the Roof” charity ball. The goal was to raise funds to increase the height of our garage roof, allowing us to accommodate new, taller minibuses that will benefit all sections of Scouts, from Squirrels through to Explorers, as well as local primary schools.
Guests began arriving from 6:30 pm for a 7 pm start, and the excitement in the room was palpable. The black-tie event added a touch of elegance, with guests looking stunning in their tuxedos and ball gowns, creating a glamorous atmosphere. Neil, our scout leader, opened the night with an inspiring speech, welcoming everyone and explaining the purpose of the event. He shared our hopes for the evening and thanked all the wonderful guests for their attendance. We were also honored to have Liz Bickerstaffe, Mayor of Medlar with Wesham Town Council, in attendance to say grace before the meal.
The culinary experience was nothing short of exquisite! Guests enjoyed a mouth-watering three-course meal, featuring slow-cooked Bowland beef with caramelised onion jam, Brie, green beans, shallots, garlic & herb mash, and a rich red wine braising jus. As everyone dined, a special video showcasing the Scouts’ activities played, highlighting the impact of the work we do. The video also offered thanks to our sponsors who generously donated raffle and auction prizes.
The night’s fundraising was a tremendous success! The raffle brought in an impressive £2,450, and the auction of promises was a hit, raising £11,000. By the end of the night, we had raised a total of £18,000—enough to reach our goal and get the roof raised! The overwhelming generosity of our supporters was truly inspiring.
After the meal, the energy kicked up a notch as “The Deadbeats” took to the stage. From 10 pm until midnight, the band had everyone on their feet with their fantastic 90s mash-up tunes and other crowd favourites. The dance floor was never empty, and the joyful atmosphere was contagious.

A special shoutout goes to Mags Bretherton and Libby Pickervance, the incredible organizers of the ball. Their hard work and dedication made the evening a massive success, and they were rightfully thanked with beautiful bouquets of flowers. A thank you also goes to Andrew King, who received a bottle of champagne in recognition of his contributions. Additionally, our heartfelt thanks go to Katie Taylor and the Explorers for their invaluable help collecting raffle tickets throughout the night.
As the evening came to a close, with carriages arriving just after midnight, it was clear that everyone had an unforgettable time.
Thank you to everyone who joined us, including our supporters and the local businesses that donated auction and raffle prizes or provided extra funding. Your generosity and enthusiasm made this a night to remember, and we couldn’t have done it without you! Together, we’ve raised the roof—both figuratively and literally!
